— FIRST IMPRESSIONS —

i'm gonna do this better sometime but: he's kinda short, stands very straight, and is very still, not prone to fiddling. he wears the same 5 outfits and dresses very utilitarian; lots of dark, earthy colours. blue eyes. strong southern accent and his voice is pretty deep, with a bit of vocal fry. very long and weirdly delicate fingers. he's not a cologne user so he just smells like deodorant and plain soap.

marksmanship: as a sniper, he's familiar with handling various types of guns including sniper rifles, and is a lethally accurate shot. other army training includes: improvisational first aid, SERE (survival, evasion, resistance and escape), parachuting, airfield seizure, special reconnaissance, personnel recovery, clandestine insertion. US marshal training: law enforcement, fugitive hunting, prisoner transport, etc. he is also fluent in spanish and can speak some basic pashto, arabic and dari.

— PERSONALITY —

Tim is probably best described as a closed book. He's intensely private and gives very little away about himself, reflected in his stoic mannerisms and flat, matter-of-fact way of speaking. He's serious when he wants to be, and very good at his job – point of fact, he's the only of the three 'main' marshals across six seasons who is never once yelled at by their boss. He's also very loyal, specifically to the Marshals Service above all else, and will protect his colleagues as much as he can. For example, when Raylan is erroneously accused of murdering his ex-wife's new husband, Tim covers for him to let him leave the office when the FBI want him to stay where he is. He covers for Raylan a lot, even when Raylan is acting outside what is strictly marshal purview, chiefly because he thinks Raylan's prone to doing the right thing, although it does grate on him that Raylan comes to him so often for his help.

Tim is very sarcastic and witty, with a very specific brand of dry humour that relies on a lot of gay bravado – like, making references to his boner, all the time, repeatedly, at work, to colleagues or literally whoever is listening. This is a mixture of a reverse psychology defence mechanism and years of being in the army, where homoerotic overtones are commonplace even with the straightest guys. He also relies on gay bravado to disarm people a little, and it very often works.

He's also referred to as an asshole by even his colleagues. He can be kind of a jerk, but ultimately he's not a terrible person, just very much a jackass. He can be rude and a little unpleasant to people he doesn't get along with, and is capable of being petty about it too, although he's pretty good at swallowing distaste for the sake of getting a job done.

One of his most important facets is that he's kind of a nerd, and a little bit of a know-it-all, although he can be somewhat childish. He's a voracious reader and tends to prefer high fantasy like Lord of the Rings, and will quite happily and irritably correct people's spoonerisms and other flubs. Developmentally, since he joined the army when he was 18, Tim did all his growing up in either the army environment or a straight-up warzone, so he's a little off-kilter, and sometimes acts like a teenager with too much power – he snacks on Lunchables and string cheese, makes those relentless dick jokes, and generally acts like nothing can possibly hurt him. He self-medicates his PTSD with alcohol, and is quite stubborn about not wanting help of the therapy flavour, preferring to keep to himself. When he shares things about himself, it's only with people that he trusts. He'll throw himself into something if he feels responsible for it, whether because of his position or his job or just because he's someone's friend. He will always go above and beyond to protect the people who have his loyalty, often at the expense of his own mental or physical wellbeing, although that doesn't make him a pushover – he doesn't let people give him excuses or treat him badly without letting them know that they're doing it, and having Tim's protection wouldn't let people circumvent Tim being pissed at them.

LEVEL ONE Tim is able to control very small-scale illusions, to be seen and experienced by one other person. The scale of the illusion will be such that the person may immediately believe they are in a different room or that there is an object or person in front of them, but the illusion will fold under some basic scrutiny. Illusory objects or spaces will have no tangibility, and illusory people will be able to move but not make any sound. Without practice, it is possible that he might inadvertently broadcast illusory scenarios, such as particularly powerful flashbacks or daydreams, without meaning to.
